With any author and book, it can be a bit of a chicken and egg game between the author’s background and why the book is written the way it is. Is the author uniquely qualified to write the book, or is the book the way it is because of the author’s unique background? The Secret Power Within Your Mortgage is a new kind of book on mortgages, and four aspects of the author’s background are particularly relevant to the book, and to his qualifications to write the book:

Daniel R. Amerman is a Chartered Financial Analyst with BSBA and MBA degrees in Finance from the University of Missouri. He was a financial analyst, then investment banker, and then institutional financial consultant. In those capacities, he has spent almost the last 25 years assisting financial institutions and property owners with structuring and analyzing many billions of dollars of mortgage finance and other structured finance transactions.
Mr. Amerman has written
three books on mortgage finance, including two published by major publishers –
each dedicated to taking the complex and making it simple and accessible. “COLLATERALIZED MORTGAGE OBLIGATIONS, Unlock
The Secrets Of Mortgage Derivatives”, was published by McGraw-Hill in
1995. Mr. Amerman is also the author of “MORTGAGE SECURITIES: The
High-Yield Alternative To CDs, The Low-Risk Alternative To Stocks”, which was
published by Probus Publishing (now a McGraw-Hill subsidiary) in 1993.
Advertised by the publisher as a professional "bestseller" for four
quarters, an Asian edition was sold as well.

Working at a boutique
investment bank and wholesale mortgage bank (UMIC Inc., long ago merged out of
existence) that specialized in restructuring savings institutions during the
1980s, Mr. Amerman spent five years immersed in learning every detail of how
many tens of thousands of low interest rate mortgages performed in inflationary
times. He was vice president
responsible for CMO and mortgage-securitized bond originations, as well as
related new product development, and the use of mortgages in hedging strategies.
Mr. Amerman has also
devoted years to researching the fundamental economic and financial factors
involved in paying for the retirement promises made to the Baby Boom
generation, and the stresses that attempting to meet those promises will place
on the financial system and investment markets in the near future. He has integrated that study into the body
of work that is The Great Retirement Experiment website, book, and free
pamphlets. More information is
available at The-Great-Retirement-Experiment.com
(The Secret Power Within
Your Mortgage was originally intended to be the fourth book in the series, but
was moved forward to the second book, in order to meet strong reader demands
for immediate, practical solutions. It
stands alone, addresses a somewhat unique and different subject matter, and can
be read without reading any of the other books or pamphlets.)
So, if you take the
combination of a credentialed author working hard on understanding some major
upcoming stresses to the financial system, add in reader demands for new
solutions, have him spend the early years of his career working with the
aftermath of how numerous homeowners financially thrived in the last major period
of inflation, mix in previous financial book writing experience that focused on
making the complex into the understandable, finish with the insights gained in
almost 25 years of working in related areas with a client base of sophisticated
financial institutions – then stir well – you have the recipe for a different
kind of mortgage book, The Secret Power Within Your Mortgage.
